Deutsche Telekom AI Concept Phone shown at MWC 2024

Deutsche Telekom brought the AI Concept Phone to MWC 2024. This is intended to show how a smartphone could work without apps. However, the concept is still lacking in some areas.
The AI Concept Phone is currently an Android smartphone with a modified operating system. A long tap on the button on the lock screen does not take you to the start screen with apps, but rather to the device's voice assistant. That's what the AI Concept Phone is all about: The promise is that you no longer have to worry about which app you need for a specific task. You should be able to talk about your concerns freely.
Deutsche Telekom AI Concept Phone: Use cases
At the demo at the trade fair in Barcelona, two different uses were demonstrated.
First, it was shown how a flight booking could work. The presenter gradually entered all the information and it appeared on the device in a special user interface. After that came steps like selecting the exact connection and ticket class.
Secondly, it was demonstrated how shopping for gifts can work. To do this, the device was given the instruction “Recommend a gift for my girlfriend who likes tennis!” A practical feature on such shopping trips is that you can quickly get more details about it by long-pressing on a result. In this context, it was also explained that a new and anonymous credit card would be created each time for purchases.
At the trade fair stand you could also see in a demo video that the assistant adjusts the data roaming with the appropriate command.
Deutsche Telekom AI Concept Phone: The difficulties
The whole thing is still a concept, but it will almost certainly end up on our smartphones in a similar form at some point. Therefore, two serious difficulties must be pointed out at this point.
In principle, it is a good goal to want to minimize interactions with the smartphone. But sometimes you want to spend your time scrolling through Instagram - and you need the corresponding app for that. So apps will probably never completely disappear from our daily companions.

A big ProThe problem could also be websites like Amazon, which make most of their money by displaying purchase recommendations. If a solution like this comes along... Proproducts without the recommendations, it can quickly happen that the respective interfaces are sealed off.
It will still take some time before this concept is ready for the market. Exact timelines were not mentioned.
