Documents from Readdle: FileDrop as competition for AirDrop

Documents for iOS is one than popular Proproductivity app by Readdle. The latest version of the tool has a feature that rivals Apple's AirDrop.

For everyone who has no idea what I'm talking about: Documents is an app for iOS from Readdle that is supposed to simplify the management and sharing of files and folders. It does not matter whether these are in iCloud or on the local storage. With version 6.5, the developers introduced a function that enables files to be shared with other Apple devices via WiFi.

Now Readdle introduced a new feature called FileDrop, which can be used from version 6.9 of the app and makes it easier to share files and folders between two devices with iOS. When opening the app on two different iOS devices, an icon for the other appears on one. Tapping on this will automatically establish a connection between them. Then files and entire folders can be moved back and forth.

Better than AirDrop?

Now Readdle claims that FileDrop is better than Apple's AirDrop. The developers attribute this to two facts. With FileDrop several files of different types can be moved and it is possible to share entire folders with the original structure. The framework behind the whole thing is the same as Apple's sharing feature and is called Multipeer Connectivity. FileDrop can now be tested with Version 6.9 of Documents.
