Firefox: Facebook container extension to protect against tracking
You are being followed on the Internet. From Facebook, from Google - it's a fact. A new tool from Mozilla for Firefox is supposed to help a little here.
Everyone who reads this article will be familiar with the little Facebook buttons on websites that make it possible to share content quickly and easily on the platform. This thing has a small catch, however. These small buttons allow the social network to monitor your internet behavior outside of Facebook. What nobody thought by now: That works even if a person doesn't have a Facebook account at all.
Firefox: The new Facebook container extension
A new browser extension for Firefox is supposed to help. This is called the Facebook container and practically prevents exactly what I just described. After installation, everything that the social medium has stored in the Firefox browser is deleted for the first time. This includes cookies and login data. The Facebook website then always opens with a blue tab, which indicates that the add-on is active. You can then use the service as usual. The only important thing is what happens outside of the homepage. Then all Facebook buttons and similar elements are deactivated by the container, which means that no tracking takes place.
This can be annoying at first, but it helps a little to maintain privacy.
