In our article on IFA 2018, we speculated about the upcoming blockchain smartphone from HTC. Now the HTC EXODUS 1 is really official. The smartphone can only be bought with the crypto currencies Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Today HTC presented its newest smartphone in Berlin - this time a rather unusual smartphone. The first blockchain smartphone on the market is to offer special security features for its trading transactions and cryptokey. Let's take a look at the equipment and the most important features of the new HTC EXODUS 1. Note: We have what cryptocurrencies actually are here already clarified.

Safe area, isolated from Android and Google

The HTC EXODUS 1 has a secured area that neither Android nor the manufacturer can access. The keys to crypto, whether currencies or non-fungible tokens (NFTs), should be kept there. In the near future, it should also be possible to securely store all digital data there. Should you lose your smartphone, you should select special emergency contacts in a key management app and use them to later regain access to the keys stored in the hardware. With secret tokens and seeds, the whole thing should be pretty secure.

In addition, they want to publish APIs for developers shortly, who can also save their files encrypted on the hardware. Communication with the developers should take place via a Telegram channel and an upcoming forum.

Hardware at the high-end level

In addition to the - for us at least inexplicable - crypto features, the HTC EXODUS 1 also offers a lot of hardware. The 6-inch display comes in QHD + and comes in the standard 18: 9 format - without a notch. The back of the smartphone is transparent and exposes all hardware components. Inside is a Snapdragon 845, together with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

The camera has a resolution of 12 and 16 megapixels on the back and is said to offer a "high quality"(?) zoom. On the other hand, the front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and "natural bokeh". Likewise are recordings in 4k video with 60 FPS proeasily possible. The 3500 mAh battery is protected by the IP68 dust and waterproof housing (up to 30 minutes in 1,5 meters of water).

The operating system is based on Android 8.0 Oreo - we can hope for an update to Android 9.0 Pie in the foreseeable future. Functions such as Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC will also be on board.

The HTC EXODUS 1 costs either 0,15 BTC (currently just under 836 Euro) or 4,78 ETH (equivalent to just under 834 Euro). It is only possible to buy a smartphone using cryptocurrency: there are no other payment methods and should not be offered in the future either. From December, the crypto smartphone should also be available from us in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
