Huawei's in-house operating system is called HarmonyOS and was only recently introduced. While Chinese devices have already received the update, it is still pending for German smartphones.

In response to a request from Huawei, it is now to be rolled out for German devices in the near future. More details will follow in this article.

For Huawei smartphones with Chinese firmware, the rollout plan is as follows:

  • From June 02nd, 2021: Huawei Mate 40 Series, Mate 30 Series, P40 Series, Mate X2, MatePad Pro & 5G
  • Q3 2021: Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro / RS, nova 8, 7, 6 series, Huawei MatePad
  • Q4 2021: Huawei Mate 20 X / 5G, Mate X, P30, P30 Pro, MediaPad M6, M6 Turbo
  • 1st half of 2022: Huawei Mate 10 series, Mate 9 series, P20 series, P10 series, Nova 5, 4, 3 series, MediaPad M5, M5 Lite

When we asked Huawei support what the rollout for HarmonyOS on German devices should look like, we got the answer that it was planned for June, but would differ depending on the region. So there is no specific date at the moment. What is certain, however, is that it is coming up soon. the ProMate 40, Mate 30 and P40 series products will be the first to receive the update to Huawei HarmonyOS.

The fact that even extremely old devices such as the Huawei Mate 9, which was presented in autumn 2016, is on the rollout plan and will receive the update in the near future is worthy of praise. Old users are therefore not neglected and the latest experience is also received. However, I doubt whether the operating system can still run to its full extent on a rather older Kirin 960.
