Intel released its new "Coffee Lake H" today Processors shown. Starting with the quad-core i5-8300H, through an i7-8850H, to an i9-8950HK. In addition, the new chips have the so-called "Thermal Velocity Boost" technology, which enables single-core turbos up to 4,8 GHz.

Mobile Processors

Intel spares no effort to bring potential AMD sympathizers back into their camp, so notebooks now also have maximum performance. In addition to the two i9 and two i7 hexacores, there are also two new i5Proprocessors with four cores and two new Xeon Processors. All are manufactured using a 14nm process.

The most interesting should be the new i9Proto be cessors. The top model offers six cores and thus twelve threads. Basically, the 45-watt chip runs at 4,6 GHz. However, thanks to the new Thermal Velocity Boost technology, it reaches 4,8 GHz. Where the i9 chips will be priced is still unclear. But it should be clear that you will not find this in any 1000 euro notebook.

Anyone who likes to overclock their notebook should take a look at the i7-8850H. Intel describes this as partially unlocked for overclocking. That means you are limited, but you can increase the multiplier up to four levels. For mobile Proprocessors, this is understandable, since the cooling in notebooks is often not designed for overclocking.

The new Xeon chips are hexacores, which vPro and support ECC. These are tools for remote maintenance and memory error correction. These are important features for workstation or serverprocessors.

advantages of the new Processors

Most of the new chips support USB 3.1. Much more important is the performance and the differences in the Processors with six cores to the predecessor could become enormous. So the i9-8950HK is said to be an Adobe Premiere Proproject approx. 60 Procent faster than an i7-7820HK. Even when playing complex games, such as PUBG, the new Proprocessors deliver significantly more power. This isn't unique to the i9.
There will be new notebooks in the coming weeks from Gigabyte and MSI, among others.

Also new desktop chips

The i5-8600 and i5-8500 with six cores and an i3-8300 with four cores are new here. Due to the higher number of cores, better performance can also be expected here. With these Processors there are also new chipsets for the 1151 v2 socket. There are already some boards with the new chipsets on the market. As with the notebookProprocessors, USB 3.1 is supported and the Proprocessors are manufactured using the 14nm process.
