iOS 9.3.5 closes critical security gap
A hole made it possible for attackers to gain full access to the device. Apple responded quickly and released iOS 9.3.5.
It won't be long before iOS 10 will be available to all users. Anyone who thinks that Apple is currently only concerned with the iOS successor is wrong. The group from Cupertino released an update for all iOS 9 users on Thursday evening. This update does not contain any new features, but rather closes a critical security hole. You can update via iTunes or in the settings under software update.
Vulnerability allowed attackers to gain full access to the device
The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto worked with a security company called Lookout to find three holes. If you find a bug and submit it to Apple, you will be remunerated with a lot of money, usually up to a million. Until this update, the vulnerability made it possible for attackers to read messages, e-mails, messages and passwords. Even the current location data could be read out by third parties with special means. It was also possible to make recordings on the iPhone and iPads without being noticed. After this vulnerability became known, Apple reacted very quickly and made a fix available to all iOS users for download.
A team from Israel, which was named "Pegasus", is said to be behind the attacker software. The team took over the device through a link. Nobody knows how many users are currently affected. It is also not known how long the software has existed. Therefore, Apple strongly advises all users to download the update. Since the update is only about 30 MB in size, the security fix should be able to be installed quickly by the user.
