At Samsung, folding goes into the next round with the Galaxy Z Fold4. As part of the Unpacked event, the new model was shown together with the Galaxy Watch5, the Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Buds2.

What has kept you from a fold smartphone so far? If it was the price, it will - said in advance - unfortunately not be cheaper. But good news: not more expensive either. The price has it in common with the specs: not much has changed. It's more the details that we'll briefly touch on in this article.

Some as usual

Some things stay the same. The QXGA+ AMOLED main display continues to offer a display diagonal of 7,6 inches (7,4 inches without borders). As with the predecessor, it comes with a resolution of 2.176 x 1.812 pixels with an aspect ratio of 21,6:18 and 120 Hz. The outer HD+ display is 6,2 inches, has a resolution of 2.316 x 904 pixels (23,1:9) and also comes with 120 Hz.

When folded, we get dimensions of 67,1 x 155,1 x 15,8 mm and unfolded to 130,1 x 155,1 x 6,3 millimeters. It weighs 263 grams, which is slightly lighter than its predecessor. The selfie cameras have the same resolution of 10 MP (cover display; f/2,2) and 4 megapixels (f/1.8). On the back there is a triple camera with 12 MP (ultra wide angle; f/2.2; 123 degrees), 50 MP (wide angle; AF; OIS; f/1,8; 85 degrees) and a 10 MP telephoto lens with f /2.4 and 36 degree viewing angle.

The revised cover, in which the S-Pen can now also be hidden, is new.

Even more storage

The memory increase to 1 TB is really new. As with the predecessor, 12 GB of working memory is used, which is optionally available with 512 GB or 256 GB of internal memory.

The battery still has its capacity of 4.400 mAh - with "Super Fast Charging" (25 watts) it should be charged within 30 minutes Procent charged. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 shouldn't fall into the water while it's charging, but otherwise it doesn't really matter: According to IPX8, it's waterproof to a depth of 1,5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The software is based on Android 12L with One UI 4.1.1, which is optimized for large displays. 5G (max. 2x nano-SIM and 1x eSIM possible) is also back on board, as well as LTE, WiFi 6E (2,4 + 5 GHz) and Bluetooth in version 5.2. The fingerprint sensor on the side is also back, along with other sensors, namely an accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor, hall sensor, proximity sensor and light sensor.

Prices and availability

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 comes in the colors gray green, phantom black and beige. The exclusive color "Burgundy" is only reserved for buyers via the Samsung website. In terms of price, we start at 1.799 euros for 256 GB and 1.519 euros for 512 GB. Even more storage? 2.159 TB is available for 1 euros.
