The popular manufacturer of multi-room speakers Sonos brings a new operating system and a new app for their own Proproducts on the market. All information about the new products.

Currently running on all Proproducts from Sonos the operating system S1, which is compatible with the well-known app. In June, the manufacturer wants to launch a new version of the OS, S2, along with a new app that will only work with the new S2 systems. Among other things, this update should bring higher-resolution audio formats and a larger audio bandwidth. It is currently not known which Proproducts from the range will receive the update exactly. But I assume that all devices that the company has presented within the last two years will get S2.

Sonos: using S1 and S2 devices together - what now?

Now, some readers are sure to ask the following two questions:

  • I still have Proproducts with S1 – which app can I use now?
  • I have Proproducts with the S1 and S2 software – can I combine these in one app?

At the very beginning I mentioned that the new app is only compatible with the speakers that S2 runs on. After the new software is released, it will be available under the name “Sonos” in the App Store and the Play Store. The “Sonos S1 Controller” app will then be available for S1 devices. This should answer the second question: No, you can't group devices with different software in one app (my opinion: not really intuitive).

At least you can old Proexchange products for a new device. Sonos has a “Trade Up”Program started, where you 30 Procent discount if you exchange an old device for a new one.
