VKI: Rewe's bonus club “Jö” should be treated with caution
With Jö, Rewe presented a competitor for Payback and co. In terms of data protection, however, this should be treated with caution.
Yeah a new bonusproprogram from the Rewe Group, which has not been in circulation in Austria for long. In a press conference, it was announced that they would like to become the largest customer club in this country. However, the Association for Consumer Information, VKI for short, believes that this service should be used with caution, especially with regard to data protection. Walter Hager from the VKI thinks that customer cards only exist to collect data from consumers. Furthermore, it is not known how the operators of Jö deal with the information.
Jö: Worries are unfounded
“Our partner companies only see their own customer data”. This was confirmed by Ulrike Kittinger, the managing director of Jö. Furthermore, it was assured that no customer data would be passed on to third parties. The accumulation of data should serve to create customer categories, to whom special rewards can be offered in the further course. Walter Hager claims, however, that it is not possible to exactly understand what actually happens with the information collected. It remains to be seen how things develop. We will keep you up to date!
