With the Silent Wings fans, the German hardware and peripherals manufacturer from Hamburg has been offering a solid basis for extremely silent PC builds for years. With the 4th generation, this will be trumped once again. We tested the Silent Wings 4 in white for you in everyday life.

tl;dr: High quality and above all quiet

The new Silent Wings 4 Fans come individually packed in boxes. The delivery includes standard black screws and white “screwless” pins so that, as the name suggests, you can attach the fans to the case without screws. For just 24,90 € (RRP. Incl. 19% VAT) pro Fans, the new Silent Wings 4 are available to buy in white. The typical 5-year manufacturer's guarantee that be quiet! provides is already included.

Mounting the fans is incredibly easy; in my PC I chose a mixture of screws and screwless pins. Since I need two 120 mm fans for the radiator of my AIO water cooling, I had to use screws. However, for a regular case you should always procan work easily without screws. The fans are then either connected to a fan controller using a 4-pin PWM connector or plugged directly into the mainboard.

When in operation, the fans are, as the name suggests, whisper quiet. Even at higher speeds, they run pleasantly quietly and the rubber on the mounting holes means there are no unpleasant vibrations on the case. In the test, I used the tool from my fan controller from NZXT to control the PWM capability. In general, any software should be able to cope with this.

Technical information

The fans are available in sizes 120 mm and 140 mm, with the 120 mm version (in our test) reaching a speed of up to 1.600 rpm and the 140 mm version up to 1.100 rpm. Both sizes have a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) bearing, which ensures a long service life and extremely quiet operation. The maximum air flow is 50,5 CFM for the 120 mm fans and 60,4 CFM for the 140 mm variant. The volume is stated to be a maximum of 16,4 dB(A) for the 120 mm and 15,5 dB(A) for the 140 mm fans. In addition, the fans offer a voltage of 5 to 13,2 V and are equipped with a 4-pin PWM connection, which enables precise control of the fan speed. The design is completed by the vibration-damping rubber pads on the mounting holes, which effectively prevent unwanted vibrations.

be quiet! Silent Wings 4 in continuous operation

My PC ran continuously with the new Silent Wings 4 without any problems. Compared to the old Asus and NZXT fans that I had previously installed, the ones from be quiet! are really impressive when it comes to noise reduction and quiet operation. We can therefore already recommend them to anyone who wants as much cooling and quiet operation as possible. They also make a good impression in combination with a radiator and, thanks to the new white color, bring a little more life to cases with large windows.

I was particularly pleasantly surprised by the screwless assembly. This not only saves time, but also wear and tear on the housing.
