Gamescom 2024, which took place in Cologne from August 20 to 25, has once again demonstrated its importance as the world's largest and most influential trade fair for the gaming industry. With 335.000 visitors, the trade fair recorded increased interest compared to the previous year. A new record was also set online: With 310 million digital hits, Gamescom achieved an impressive reach worldwide.

I was there in person on the trade visitor day, August 21st. I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and variety of the trade fair. The exhibition stands were more impressive than ever, and it was clear that Gamescom is thinking in huge dimensions. I found it particularly remarkable that more and more "classic" companies with no direct connection to gaming are recognizing Gamescom as an important platform and addressing their target groups there. For example, this year DeLonghi and Carrera prominently represented and had skillfully integrated themselves into the gaming world.

Highlights and innovations

An absolute highlight of the trade visitor day was the Blizzard stand. Here, visitors could enjoy an immersive experience of a special kind: Equipped with Meta Quest 3 headsets and sitting on 6-axis platforms that simulate flying through the skies of Azeroth, the players were transported into a virtual world. Wind, smoke and sound effects made the experience even more realistic as they fought against the forces of the Void under the command of Xal'atath. This type of innovative presentation shows how far technology has progressed and what new possibilities are opening up in the gaming industry.

International participation at record levels

A total of 1.462 exhibitors from 64 countries presented their latest games, products and services at this year's Gamescom. An impressive 71 percent of the exhibitors came from abroad, which underlines the international importance of the trade fair. The event is organized jointly by Koelnmesse and the industry association Game and once again attracted the global elite of the gaming industry to Cologne.

Growing relevance also for non-gaming companies

My impression from the trade visitor day confirms that Gamescom has long since gone beyond the mere presentation of computer games. Companies from various industries recognize the relevance of the trade fair and use it to present their brands and products to a new, technology-savvy audience. This development underlines the growing importance of Gamescom as a central meeting place not only for gamers, but also for companies that want to position themselves for the future.

Outlook: Gamescom 2025 already in planning

Following the success of this year's trade fair, the next Gamescom is already being planned. From August 20 to 24, 2025, Gamescom will once again take place in Cologne, with the Opening Night Live on the evening of August 19. The anticipation for the upcoming edition is already great, and it is expected that Gamescom will continue to set new standards in the gaming industry.

Conclusion: Gamescom remains an indispensable event

Gamescom 2024 has impressively demonstrated why it remains the most important event in the gaming industry. With increasing visitor numbers, innovative presentations and growing relevance for companies outside the classic gaming sector, the trade fair has consolidated its position as the leading platform for digital entertainment and technology. Those who had the chance to attend the trade visitor day were able to gain a deep insight into the latest trends and developments and experience how the boundaries between gaming and other industries are becoming increasingly blurred.
