Next to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus Apple also presented a borderless iPhone for the first time. But: is it really the smartphone of the future? In this article we summarize all the new features of the iPhone X in a compact way.

With the words "There is one more thing ..." announced Apple last night another surprise. A few weeks earlier, a few leaks showed us a borderless iPhone. Now it really is a reality. According to Apple, the first rimless iPhone should even be the smartphone of the future.

iPhone X: Completely without a border?

The first rimless iPhone took quite a lot of inspiration from the Galaxy S8. With a diagonal of 5,8 inches and an odd resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels, it is very similar to Samsung's flagship. As with other manufacturers, the iPhone has a bulge for the camera on the upper edge. In addition to the front camera, Apple also integrates a microphone with speaker and an infrared camera. But more on that later. However, it is pretty similar to that Essential Phone.

There are two speakers and a Lightning connector on the bottom of the smartphone. Unfortunately there is no jack connection. In addition, like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, the anniversary model is made entirely of glass. As a result, this is also QI-capable and can be easily charged wirelessly with any QI charging station.

Touch ID: Where did the home button go?

With the new edge-to-edge display, Apple has not been able to accommodate a home button with a fingerprint sensor on the front of its new top model. What would other manufacturers do here? You simply put the fingerprint sensor on the back. But that's not how Apple does it and relies on completely different methods. With Face ID, the iPhone X is unlocked only with your own face. 1: 1 is the chance to “break into” a smartphone with an identical face, according to Apple.

For this purpose, the iPhone creates a mathematical model of the face and compares it – giving access to the smartphone. This technology aims to unlock in low light conditions without Proproblems may be possible. With the keynote, however, the whole thing didn't work right away - probably a beginner's mistake. However, a software update should solve this quickly.

But now we have one more Proproblem: how does it work without buttons? Here Apple has acted very creatively. You now have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get back to the main menu. Swipe and hold brings the user to the task manager. You can jump back and forth between apps by swiping sideways.

New Proprocessor and dual camera

The new A11 chip is also at work inside the other two iPhones. "Bionic" is the name of this, which is also to be used in the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. According to Apple, this should even be 70 Procent faster than in the predecessor. On the back there is a horizontally aligned dual camera, which should capture more light and work even faster. Screen stabilization is also built into both lenses.

Price, colors and launch

The iPhone X will be available in the memory versions with 64GB and 256GB from October 27th. The colors are black, white and gold to choose from. In the cheapest version, the rimless iPhone costs a whopping 1149 euros. The delivery should then take place on November 3rd. How the iPhone will sell remains to be seen.

Well, it was about time that Apple also brought qi-enabled cell phones onto the market. Others have been doing this for a long time, see qi enabled cell phones then wirelessly on one Qi charger can be loaded.
