Android Marshmallow breaks the 10 percent mark

According to the monthly statistics published by Google, it has now been announced that Android Marshmallow has finally cracked the 10 percent mark. This means that it reaches about one in ten smartphones on the market.
Google recently published the statistics for Android version distribution, as it does every month. The statistics show what percentage of smartphones are currently running Android Marshmallow (version 6.0). Of course, you can also see percentages for other versions. Since the release of Android 6.0 on October 30, 2015, it has been running on 10,1 percent of smartphones.
That's about one in ten smartphones - compared to the previous month of May, Android M achieved an increase from 7,5 to 10,1 percent. Of course, Android 7 is already running on the new smartphones, such as the Galaxy S6 or S6.0. The Galaxy S5 should now also receive an update to Android 6.0.1. But Android Marshmallow is far from leading.
Android Lollipop still mostly installed
Android 5.1 Lollipop is still in the lead. Compared to the previous month, the mobile operating system saw an increase of 0,6% and now runs on 20 percent of devices. The slightly older version 5.0, on the other hand, runs on 15,4% of all smartphones. In total, this amounts to 35,4%, making it the most installed Android at the moment.

In third place is Android KitKat with 31,6 percent. This means that older versions are still installed on many devices. Somehow, software updates for smartphones are still not working properly. One of the first Android versions, version 2.2 called Froyo (Frozen Yoghurt), is still used by 0,1 percent of users - crazy. You have to remember that this version was released on May 20, 2010.
A small note by the way: a successor to Android Marshmallow is due to appear in autumn 2016 - Android 7.0, currently known under the code name Android N. Maybe Android M will crack the 20% mark by then. What do you say? Let us know via a comment below this post!
