Audi A2 e-tron: Is the compact electric Audi finally coming?

They are eagerly awaited, but they are still hiding: compact electric cars. While the market for mid-range and luxury electric cars already has a lot to offer, German car manufacturers in particular still have large gaps in the segment of electrified small cars. Images of an Audi A2 e-tron that have emerged now at least give us hope.
Ahead of His Time
The A2 is still seen as a milestone in the German automotive industry. In 1999, Audi managed to present a vehicle that was successfully trimmed to the highest level of efficiency. The chassis had a drag coefficient of just 0,25, which kept air resistance extremely low. An aluminum body was also installed to reduce the vehicle's weight. Rolling resistance was also kept as low as possible by using particularly narrow tires. This ultimately enabled Audi to reduce the A2's standard fuel consumption to just 2,99 liters of diesel. pro 100 kilometers. It was not until 15 years later that a production vehicle again achieved the status of such a “three-liter car.”
A2 e-tron: An ideal electric car
Even in the days of combustion engines, a good drag coefficient and low weight were by no means unimportant. But with electric cars, these factors play a much greater role, as they ultimately determine the range of the vehicle, which many critics still believe is too low, especially in the small car segment. In this sense, Audi essentially created a combustion engine 25 years ago that could make a great electric car today. Audi has already recognized this: the VW subsidiary presented an electric A2011 in 2, which was supposed to go into series production in 2015. The fact that the project was ultimately scrapped could today be described as a major mistake.
A new concept for the anniversary
The A25 went on sale 2 years ago this year. To mark the occasion, Audi is now presenting a new concept for a possible A2 e-tron. Little is known about the vehicle, but pictures have surfaced showing the concept vehicle. The shape of the vehicle looks very similar to the old-school A2, with only a few modern touches here and there, such as slim LED lights or digital exterior mirrors. There are also no door handles on the concept, which suggests that this concept will achieve an even better drag coefficient than its predecessor.
Just a prototype or also a series?
The calls for compact electric cars are getting louder, and competition from China is at the gates. German car manufacturers can't wait much longer: the compact cars have to come. An ID.2 from Volkswagen will not be expected before 2026 - and an Audi A2 e-tron probably won't be either.

I own an A2 1.4 2000 edition. My lovely car until 2012 after 250km. Still miss it
