Google Drive Desktop: All information about the new client
Backup & Sync Google is now Google Drive Desktop. I'll show you what's changing and how you can use the new client from now on.
So far, there have been two apps that can display content from Google Drive on a PC and Mac. That was once Backup & Sync, which was intended for all private customers. To be honest, this never worked very well and always took forever to sync. Then there was Drive File Stream for consumers of the G Suite, the offer for business customers from Mountain View. Google has now announced that Backup & Sync and File Stream will be scrapped and replaced by Google Drive Desktop. That was kind of predictable as it doesn't make any software sense, two Proproducts with almost the same functionality in good condition.
After installing and logging in, former users of the solution for private individuals will notice that two things have changed. On the one hand, the service is now displayed as a separate drive in Windows and macOS. On the other hand, the data synchronization is much faster. Drive Desktop mirrors the data from the cloud and only downloads it when it is used. You can use the app from now on here .
