High-end smartphone shutdown? Huawei could plan to sell P and Mate series
Huawei could be in early talks to sell the premium smartphone series P and Mate. Two insiders confirmed this to Reuters today - this could mean the end of high-end smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer.
Who Reuters reported today, Huawei could soon sell two smartphone series to another company. That could be the answer to the falling sales figures due to the Huawei ban in the USA. Through this - as already it might - US companies have stopped trading with Huawei for a few months. So there have been no Google apps on their smartphones for a long time. The whole thing could also happen soon to Xiaomi, we had here reported.
Huawei has allegedly been planning to sell for a long time but does not know about it
Huawei began to look into the possibility of selling the brands internally last September, according to one of the sources. The two sources were not privy to Huawei's assessment of the brands. However, Huawei has not yet made a final decision on the sale and the talks may not be successful, the informants add. That's because the company is still trying to make its own Kirin chips in-house.
However, Huawei does not seem to know anything about it: "Huawei has learned that unsubstantiated rumors about the possible sale of our flagship smartphone brands are in circulation," said a Huawei spokesman. “There is absolutely nothing to these rumors. Huawei has no such plans. "
No hope of lifting the US ban
The potential sale of Huawei's premium smartphone lines suggests the company has little hope that the new Biden administration will undo the U.S. ban under Trump that has been imposed on Huawei since May 2019, the two people said .
It is unclear who of these two sides is right now. However, a sale would not be a surprise after the recently also split off Honor as a brand from Huawei. So if you really want to sell the P and Mate series, Huawei would only concentrate on cheaper entry-level series - such as the Y series - in the future.
