Huawei P20 Pro: GPU Turbo update rolling out
There is new information about the Huawei GPU Turbo Update. It has been known for a few weeks that some Huawei smartphones will receive such an update. This should improve the graphics performance a lot. The update is now rolling out.
Huawei has had an update for the graphics chip for numerous Huawei smartphones for a long timeprochen. Among them is something like this Huawei P20 Pro included. Smartphone series such as the Huawei P10 and the Mate 10 will also receive the update soon. Various Honor smartphones are also represented. Our device has now received the update - what's new.
Huawei GPU Turbo: What's New?
As can be seen from the changelog, the update adds a "special technology for turbo acceleration" to improve the efficiency of graphic processing. Ultimately, it should improve the display and performance of games on the smartphone. There is also a special game center with the “Game Suite” app, where you can define settings during the game. For example, you can now deactivate the notifications while playing. Similar features are also known from Samsung smartphones.
Hopefully this update will also fix the known heatProblem of the Kirin 970 chip from Huawei, which we in our test report have criticized. This has been built into the flagships since last year and likes to warm up under load. These things are not explicitly listed. In addition, the security patch is being improved to July 2018.
But there is a catch: the respective game has to be adapted for this turbo, otherwise you won't feel any differences in performance. How many games are ultimately optimized for the update is not easy to say. Pre-installed apps like Asphalt 8 probably already.
In my opinion, this update does nothing. Got it on my Mate 10 Pro, and nothing has changed at all.
The update is running on my P20 (as in the screenshot above). Pro and I'm already noticing differences, at least in some games like Asphalt or PUBG. Fortnite continues to stutter – even with the update.
