iPhone 17e officially unveiled: A19 chip, C1X modem and doubled base storage

Apple today unveiled the new iPhone 17e via press release. The new entry-level model combines current processor technology with a significant upgrade in internal storage, but still foregoes the modern display features of the Pro series.
Hardware: A19 performance and new Apple modem
Under the hood of the iPhone 17e is the new A19 chip, which is also used in the more expensive models of the 17 series. To maintain differentiation, however, Apple has installed a variant with a quad-core GPU here. A significant innovation concerns connectivity: Apple is using its own C1X modem for the first time. According to the manufacturer, this should achieve twice the data transfer speed and operate more efficiently compared to the previous model.
Apple has stuck to its familiar design for the casing, but has introduced a matte back. The device will be offered in black, white, and a new "Soft Pink" color.

Display and housing protection
The Super Retina XDR display still measures 6,1 inches. Those hoping for a smooth 120Hz refresh rate (ProMotion) or Dynamic Island will be disappointed: Apple is sticking with the classic notch and 60Hz for the entry-level model. However, there are improvements in panel protection. According to Apple, the integrated "Ceramic Shield 2" is three times more scratch-resistant than the first generation of protective glass.
Camera with 48 MP Fusion sensor
The rear camera has been upgraded to a 48MP Fusion sensor. By cropping the high-resolution sensor, Apple now enables "optical" 2x telephoto shots without the need for a dedicated telephoto lens. In terms of video, the iPhone 17e supports 4K Dolby Vision recording at up to 60 fps. Spatial audio recording is also possible, which is primarily relevant for users of Apple Vision Pro.
Storage upgrade, pricing and availability
A critical point of criticism from recent years has been addressed: Apple is doubling the base storage to 256 GB. This is the company's response to the increasing storage demands of high-resolution photos and apps. MagSafe for wireless charging and accessories remains standard.
However, the pricing is ambitious. While the entry-level model starts at €699, Apple charges €949 for the maximum configuration with 512 GB – a significant premium for the additional flash storage.
The pre-order phase begins on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 15:15 PM. Official delivery and the start of retail sales will follow one week later on March 11.
