Samsung tried a few years ago to gain a foothold in this area with its in-house messenger ChatOn. But that didn't quite work, the service was discontinued about a year ago. Now the company wants to start a new attempt with Samsung Uhsupp.

Update: No messenger of this kind was presented at the MWC. Maybe this will come in the future.

Launch of the MWC

According to leaks, the app will be presented to the public together with the Samsung Galaxy S9 (Plus) on February 25 at the MWC. It is assumed that the service could be a direct competitor for WhatsApp, Instagram and Co. In the leaks, Uhsupp is primarily described as a social network, but the features of the app suggest that this is primarily a messenger.

Nevertheless, according to the current state of affairs, Uhsupp should not stand out from the competition. It is expected that the messenger will send messages to other users. In addition, it should be possible to share one's location in real time. That was it already. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will implement an independent feature.

The naming is based on WhatsApp

HUGE TECH suspects that the naming was pretty much based on WhatsApp. If you swap the “U” for a “W”, you get “Whsupp”, which in turn could be pronounced like “WhatsApp”.

The service should be available from March 19th. The Uhsupp app will most likely be preinstalled on upcoming Samsung smartphones. It is still unclear whether users of other smartphones will also be able to use the service prowill fit.
