iPadOS 16.1 software update available for download today

After a long wait, the time has finally come: Towards evening the update will be on iPadOS 16.1 unlocked. That awaits you.
This year, Apple releases iPadOS update for the first time after the new version of iOS. The reason for this delay is the Stage Manager. This is the new window multitasking system for the iPad and the Mac, which, however, is not really flawless until now. As a result, Apple needed more time to fix it.

Apple also optimized the Stage Manager for the iPad Pros without an MProprocessor. These devices should not actually receive the innovation.
There are of course several other changes. Things like shared iCloud Photo Library, editing iMessages, and the ability to schedule emails in the Mail app are coming from iPhone to iPad. There are also improvements for Live Text in iPadOS 16.1. This feature is now also able to scan text from videos, for example.
iPad only: Freeform and "Desktop" apps
Of course, there are also features that are exclusive to the iPad, starting with Freeform. This is an app where you can work with other people on a kind of whiteboard. The whole thing is very similar to the Notes app, with Freeform focusing on input with the Apple Pencil. The app is slated for release later this year.
Last but not least, apps can behave more like desktop apps if they have been adapted to do so. For example, in Pages you can now see a toolbar with the most important formatting options in the upper part of the window – just like on the Mac.
iPadOS 16.1: It starts at 19 p.m
You can convince yourself of the features just listed starting today at 19 p.m. From then on you can find the update in the system settings under “General” and “Software update”. In any case, plan one and a half to two hours for the installation, because you never know how busy the Apple servers are and whether everything is going smoothly.
So iPadOS 16 never existed, but 16.1 right away? illogical
Hi Frank,
in fact, Apple skipped iPadOS 16 right away due to the delay. So we are now at iPadOS 16.1.
