iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max introduced: A major upgrade?

Despite supply bottlenecks and numerous international crises, Apple today officially introduced the new iPhone models, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, all of which have become significantly more expensive in the Eurozone. However, the two Pro models have received the biggest upgrades, which we have summarized in this article. 

iPhone 14 Pro: Hardware

Design

From a visual point of view, we of course see the familiar iPhone design on the iPhone 14 Pro. The camera module is a bit larger and more dominant than its predecessor and the new color available is purple in addition to the classic gold and silver. There is also now a matte black. It is only on the front that you see the iPhone 14 Pro's feature, the pill-shaped front camera cutout.

It may seem strange at first glance, but it was added as a kind of "task bar" in the iOS 16 software, which now replaces information displays such as successful connection to headphones. Otherwise, we have the classic sizes in the lineup, the iPhone 14 Pro has a 6,1-inch display and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 6,7-inch display.

Display

Speaking of display, this has also received a boost in brightness on the iPhone 14 Pro. For HDR content, a maximum brightness of 2.000 nits should now be possible under sunlight, which breaks the record for the currently highest brightness in a smartphone. The rest remains unchanged on a good basis, including the high resolution and refresh rate of 120 Hertz. The only thing that has been added is the Always-On Display, which has long been available on Android, which shows a darkened wallpaper and the time as information even when locked, similar to the Apple Watch. Although this is implemented more beautifully than on well-known Android smartphones, it is also likely to significantly increase power consumption.

Performance & battery

Apple speaks of an "all-day battery life", but does not compare it to other iPhones. It can therefore be deduced that the battery life will probably be somewhat worse than its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro (Max). And this despite the fact that the new, more efficient A14 Bionic SoC is working inside the iPhone 16 Pro. This is now manufactured using a four-nanometer process and should consume less power while delivering more power. Also new is the display engine, which is responsible for a power-saving supply of the new Always-On Display.

iPhone 14 Pro: Camera system

The camera has been the aspect that Apple has been talking about for the longest time at the keynote for several years. The iPhone 14 Pro (Max) also has numerous new features. Similar to what was suspected in the leaks, the main camera now has a resolution of 48 megapixels and the sensor is said to have become 65 percent larger. However, Apple also uses pixel binning technology, which always adds four pixels together for better low-light behavior and thus creates an image with twelve megapixels. proOnly in ProRAW mode should the user be able to access the full resolution.

Due to the high resolution, Apple can now also do a double zoom with optical quality, better than the iPhone 12 Pro, to offer. The ultra-wide angle is also said to have received a new sensor with better low-light behavior. Also new is the front camera, which now supports autofocus and can therefore shift the focus area.

The area around the video recordings was only discussed by Apple in a few sentences, contrary to rumours, recording in 8k resolution is not supported. Only the cinema mode, which last year with the iPhone 13 Pro was introduced, now supports a resolution of 4k with a maximum of 30, optionally 24 images pro Second.

iPhone 14 Pro: Increased prices

At the keynote, Apple announced that the prices would remain the same as the predecessor, but this only applies to the American market. In the eurozone, we have to cope with a high price increase of 150 euros. The reason for this is certainly inflation. In concrete terms, this means that the iPhone 14 Pro will be available at EUR 1.299 for 128 gigabytes of storage starts, for EUR 1.429, so 130 euros more, there is then 256 gigabytes of storage and the most expensive version with a terabyte costs whopping EUR 1.949.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is in every version again 150 euros more expensive than the iPhone 14 Pro, so the basic version (128 GB) with EUR 1.449, the version with Gigabyte 256 at EUR 1.579 priced and for the most expensive version (1 TB) the customer must EUR 2.099 fork out At such prices you can now really think of a luxuryproproduct that Apple offers.
