Microsoft Teams down: HTTP Error 401, desktop app does not start and more

Currently, Microsoft Teams is down with users all over the world. The communication tool for home office, homeschooling and more is currently showing HTTP 401 errors in the web interface worldwide. Teams is also partly not available on the desktop, shows a white screen and does not start.

Microsoft Teams was down at the beginning of April. A worldwide malfunction had already resulted in thousands of users unable to log into their Microsoft / Office 365 account. This time it's that time again, but now it only affects teams alone. In the browser teams.microsoft.com one receives error messages like "HTTP ERROR 401 - This page does not work" or further error messages like "Operation failed with unexpected error". Like the Microsoft 365 status account on Twitter has confirmed, concerns this Problem thousands of teams worldwide.

Microsoft Teams unreachable: what to do?

Using the Teams desktop app can help. But only if you had opened it beforehand. For example, there are currently no errors on Android, iOS and the Teams desktop app under Windows and macOS, but only if you have been logged in since this morning. If you shoot the tool and open it again, it won't start like we did User confirmed. Also, some people see a white screen after starting Microsoft Teams. Restarting the app can be helpful here.

If this doesn't help either, patience is required. Microsoft has already confirmed the disruption on several platforms. Microsoft 365 admins can use the Admin portal see the error as well.

The desktop app is also affected. the ProHowever, problems only appear when logging in -> ie if you have been logged in to teams since this morning, everything works. But if you close and reopen teams, you can no longer log in.
