A few days ago, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, the first smartphone with a 200 megapixel main camera, was presented, which is undoubtedly quite impressive and the absolute highlight. But the remaining technical data is also more than impressive on paper and it is precisely these that we want to look at in the following lines.
First, let's start with the design of the Edge 30 Ultra. With dimensions of 161,76 millimeters in height and 73,5 millimeters, the Edge 30 Ultra is neither one of the largest nor one of the smallest smartphones on the market. It's a fairly normal size by today's standards. The thickness is 8,39 millimeters and the weight is 199 grams. While the frame is made of aluminum, matte glass is used on the back. When it comes to colors, customers can choose between black and white. A large OLED display dominates on the front (more in a moment), which is only interrupted by a small punch hole in the left corner. The bezels around the screen make a pleasantly thin impression in pictures.
Motorola Edge 30 Ultra: Specifications
The aforementioned OLED display measures 6,7 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 2.400 x 1.080 pixels. There is also a smooth refresh rate of 144 Hertz, which makes all animations and scrolling look buttery smooth. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the current topproprocessor from Qualcomm, which is supported by 12 GB RAM. There is also 256 GB of internal storage, which unfortunately cannot be expanded using a microSD card.
The 4.610 mAh battery, which can be fully charged with the included 125 watt power supply unit in about 20 minutes, should ensure long runtimes, which is really strong. Wireless charging is also on board, but "only" with 50 watts, which is still more than many other competitors. Unfortunately, the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is not IP68 protected against the ingress of water and dust. It is only certified according to IP52 (protection against splash water).
Main camera with 200 megapixels
A triple camera is used on the back, which is supposed to be the absolute highlight of the Edge 30 Ultra, because the main sensor has a proud resolution of 200 megapixels, which has not been available on any other smartphone to date. Thanks to the enormous size of 1/1.22 inch, the sensor can absorb an extremely large amount of light, which should visibly improve recordings in the dark.
The manufacturer also installs a 50 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera with 12 megapixels that enables a 2x optical zoom. A 60 megapixel front camera is responsible for selfies.
Price
With all these specs, you'd think they'd be asking for at least $1.000, but fortunately that's not the case. For the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, you “only” have to pay 12 euros for 256 GB of RAM and 899 GB of internal storage, which is probably pretty fair for what’s on offer on paper.
