This week Apple announced macos catalina free. That would be the perfect opportunity for Netflix to bring their own app to the OS, but that is not planned.
At WWDC 2019 in June, Apple spoke of "Project Catalyst." This is a new framework that allows developers to port iPad apps to the Mac without much effort. Netflix could have used this, as the streaming provider has an app for the tablet but not for the Mac, and the demand for one is very high.
Netflix: No app for macOS
Many hoped that the provider would seize the opportunity. But you don't intend to, how Bloomberg (via The verge) reported. That means that you still have to rely on the web app. And this one has a major downside, which is that you can't download content for offline use, which is a must-have for many. Something like that would be with a Catalyst app proeasily possible. But who knows, maybe Netflix will give in in the future.
