To lots of rumors and guesses Nintendo officially launched the Nintendo Switch Lite yesterday. All information about the new handheld console can be found here.

Unlike the large Switch, the Switch Lite is available in several different colors. Yellow, gray and turquoise. The pure black didn't make it into the range. Everything on the console has become a little smaller and more compact, including the touchscreen. This measures 5,5 inches instead of 6,2 inches diagonally and still has a resolution of 1.280 × 720 pixels. It may sound like a little bit at first, but it is completely sufficient in everyday life, as my experience report on the Nintendo Switch showed. At around 275 grams, the handheld is also a lot lighter than its predecessor.

No more joy-cons

The Lite addition in the name of the new console already suggests that you have to make compromises somewhere. I already mentioned that the overall package and the display got smaller. Another change is that there are no more slots for Joy-Cons. Instead, the joysticks, D-Pad, and ABXY knobs are an integral part of the case. Joy-Cons and ProHowever, controllers can be purchased separately. Furthermore, the possibility of connecting the switch to the TV was eliminated. This also means that only handheld mode games are available for the Nintendo Switch Lite.

It is positive that the battery life remains compared to the predecessor. It is charged again via USB-C.

Nintendo Switch Lite: Pricing and Availability

The Nintendo Switch Lite will go on sale on September 20th. As far as you can tell, it will be priced at $ 199. This makes it around 100 dollars cheaper than the normal switch. The prices in our currency will be roughly similar.
