The Vivo Apex: A concept smartphone with innovations

The Vivo Apex (Image Vivo)

At the CES, the manufacturer Vivo presented the first smartphone with a fingerprint sensor in the display. With the Vivo Apex you can now show that your displays can not only recognize the fingerprint, but also reproduce the sound. In addition to this innovation, there is another special feature.

The main focus - the display

The Chinese manufacturer Vivo amazes again and again. The latest device - namely Vivo Apex - is also following the trend. The bezels of the display have to be as thin as possible, making the display bigger and bigger. The 98-inch OLED screen in 6: 18 format takes up an impressive 9%. On the one hand, this is possible because the fingerprint sensor is integrated in the display. This should also work reliably and is easy to hit, since an estimated one third of the display works as a fingerprint sensor.

Striking: the almost borderless design, without an annoying camera in the display. (Image: Vivo)

But the screen can do a lot more. Sony's Bravia televisions are already familiar with the sound from the screen. There it is also rated as very positive. Now the question arises: How can this work with a cell phone? According to the first tests, it should even work very well. The loudspeakers are primarily intended for telephoning, as they are intended to replace the other loudspeakers, which were located above the display.

Probably the strangest thing about the new Apex is the retractable selfie cam. If you start the camera, it takes 0,8 seconds to remove it from the smartphone and is ready for use. The camera triggers with a fairly normal 8 MP. How suitable this is for everyday use remains to be seen.

It should also be emphasized that the Vivo Apex is not a market-ready model, but a concept phone. Little things can change or even improve before the version is ready for the market. A date for the start of sales has not yet been set.
