Now that Samsung has taken care of the wide distribution of Android Pie, the Gear Sport, Gear S3 Frontier and Gear Classic will be equipped with the latest Tizen OS 4.0.

XDA Developers writes that Samsung is now providing buyers of Gear Sport, Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic with the latest version of Tizen OS. To be more precise, this is Tizen Os 4.0. The update for the Gear Sport has the version number R760XXU2DSA1 or R760OXA2DSA1. For the updates for the two watches in the Gear S3 series, the numbers are R600XXU1BSA1 and R600OXA1BSA1. In all cases, the update is around 299 megabytes in size.

This is new in Tizen OS 4.0

With Tizen OS 4.0 comes a long series of innovations. I will here briefly write a sentence or two about the most important ones.

Samsung Health now offers support for indoor workouts and a widget for information on sleep phases. To ensure faster interaction with the smartwatch, there are now new entries in the Quick Settings panel. If you have multiple sources for listening to music, you no longer need your smartphone to switch between them. If you now hold down the power button on the Gear Sport and swipe to the right, a screenshot should be created and the smartphone saved. Since this feature is not mentioned in the official changelog, I cannot say whether it is also available on the other two models. A few small things also changed in the settings and in the management of messages.

As I said, the update is only now reaching the first users of the Samsung smartwatches from 2017. So if you don't see an update right away, you should wait a few days and then look again.
