Are you surprised at the change? Are you going to switch messengers now?

WhatsApp was taken over by Facebook 2 years ago. Since then, the messenger has not been linked to Facebook. But this should now be different - the service now sends numbers and user data to the Facebook server.

When WhatsApp was acquired in February 2014, some users feared that the two services would be merged. However, the services will not be merged, but from now on user data will be exchanged between WhatsApp and Facebook. This is intended to show the user more interesting advertising on Facebook if you give your phone number to your personal Proadded fil.

Facebook gets access to user data from WhatsApp

Specifically, some user data is made available to the social media giant by WhatsApp. Messages are not exchanged, however, as they remain end-to-end encrypted. This encryption means that WhatsApp and other users are unable to read other people's chats. Images, videos and voice messages are also not transmitted to Facebook.

So you can contradict the change

If you already use WhatsApp, you have the option of using the new terms of use to disagree. When the pop-up appears in the app, click on "Read more about..." and remove the checkmark there. If you forgot to remove the tick there, you can object to the new guidelines for 30 days in the settings. To do this, go to the WhatsApp settings and click on “Account”. Here you can remove the tick under “Share my account info”. Even if you oppose the changeprosome data will continue to be sent to Facebook to fight spam. Excerpt from the new terms of use of WhatsApp:

The Facebook group of companies will still receive this information and for other purposes, such as improving infrastructure and delivery systems, understanding the type of use of our or their services, securing the systems and combating spam, misuse or violations.

It remains to be seen whether Messenger will merge even more with Facebook in the future. However, it is not known whether the contact list will also be sent to Facebook. If you don't want to transfer data to Facebook, you should stop using the messenger and switch to alternatives such as Telegram or Threema.
