Ledger Flex and Stax review: Cryptocurrencies in your own custody

Cryptocurrencies have been becoming increasingly well-known and useful in our society for years. The wallet manufacturer Ledger Ledger provided us with the Flex and Stax for testing. We'll explain what they're used for in this article.
There are numerous brokers and software wallets available today that allow you to purchase various cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others. However, these present technical and legal hurdles when it comes to ownership. Ledger overcomes these hurdles. proflawless.
Anyone wanting to invest their first ten euros in cryptocurrencies and ease into the hobby should start with software wallets. However, as soon as larger sums are involved and cryptocurrencies are used for asset storage, a hardware wallet like those from Ledger is definitely recommended. While the starting price is somewhat higher at €249,00, it's a worthwhile investment in security and personal control.
Not Your Key, Not Your Coin
This common phrase in the crypto scene isn't without reason. Anyone who buys Bitcoin on a trading app like Trade Republic or Scalable Capital, for example, receives no guarantee of the safekeeping of these coins. They merely participate in their price fluctuations. In the event of the broker's bankruptcy, the user could face financial difficulties. Because if the user doesn't own the 24 coins themselves, a third party like the broker holds them, which is precisely not the fundamental idea behind the invention of crypto.
What makes Ledger better?
Now, however, we come to the safer and simpler solution for crypto custody: Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax.
Ledger Flex and Stax are so-called hardware wallets, which fit like a physical wallet in your pocket. When you set up the wallets, you receive 24 words that you must keep secure. Ledger essentially gives you complete control over your Bitcoin, Solana, and other cryptocurrencies. Only with these 24 words can you access your acquired cryptocurrencies in an emergency.
Ledger Flex
Ledger Flex and Stax are simply products that differ in design and price. Ledger Flex is the more affordable entry point for those looking to purchase their first hardware wallet.
A USB-C cable is included to power the wallet and connect it to iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux devices. This is essential for using the "Ledger Live" app, which allows you to manage your cryptocurrencies. Communication between your device and the hardware wallet can also be managed via Bluetooth or NFC. Another practical feature is that Ledger includes a recovery sheet in the box, on which you can securely and permanently write down your 24-word recovery phrase should your hardware wallet malfunction or if you wish to upgrade.
Because only with these words can you regain access to your cryptocurrencies. Also positive is the important note that you shouldn't digitally back up your recovery sheet to ensure physical security and separation from the internet.
Which one is suitable for whom?
Whether you choose the Ledger Stax or the Flex is a matter of personal preference. Thanks to their E-Ink displays, both are extremely energy-efficient and offer the same tactile experience. The advantage of the Ledger Stax is that it can be placed in a magnetic flip case for all-around protection, while the Flex comes without any additional protection. Technically, however, both devices are identical in operation.
My personal favorite
Both the Ledger Stax and Flex are affordable and well-made. However, the Ledger Stax is my personal favorite because, in my opinion, its design and how it's used make it stand out.
Prices and availability
Currently, the prices on the official website are €399,00 for the Stax model and €249,00 for the Flex model.
