BeatsX by Dr. Dre review: the AirPod alternative

A year has passed since Apple launched the AirPods. However, not everyone can wear these in-ears - many owners complain about Probleme with the seat of the headphones. But subsidiary Beats by Dr. Dre has an alternative that costs the same.

Yes, I am one of those people who can neither wear EarPods nor AirPods with relish in their ears. Because of their fit, they keep falling out of my ears. But on February 10th last year, Beats released the BeatsX in-ear headphones on behalf of Apple (Apple bought Beats).

The scope of delivery

The buyer expects the following:

  • USB-A to Lightning cable
  • Four rubber attachments in various sizes
  • Two different sports attachments
  • A small rubber case for safe transport of the headphones
  • The Beats headphones

What makes the BeatsX so special?

The BeatsX are in-ear headphones equipped with Bluetooth and specially developed for iOS and MacOS. Like the AirPods, they have the W1 chip developed by Apple, which enables Siri to be activated via the remote button.

How do I connect the headphones?

All you have to do is activate Bluetooth on the iPhone and then press and hold the on / off button on the headphone cable. This opens a window where you only have to click on "Connect" once to synchronize the BeatsX with your own iCloud. Now the headphones are available for all your Apple devices.
However, do you have several AppleProproducts, you must repeat the same process as described above.

The sound

Beats is actually known for its enormous bass and loud sound. Fortunately, that has changed and even improved with BeatsX. Sound and bass sound more coordinated than with previous beats, which leads to a more pleasant listening experience.

However, what is important to note: You should use the appropriate attachments for the BeatsX so that the sound arrives clearly and well in the ear. If you have the wrong attachments in your ear, it can happen that the sound is noticeably weaker.

The comfort

Despite the wireless connection, the beats can be placed comfortably around the neck, which is made possible by the comfortable rubber coating of the cable.
On the left is the small battery with a Lightning connector. The iPhone or iPad can be charged with a Lightning cable, which is an advantage for every iPhone or iPad owner.

If you have the headphones around your neck, you don't have to worry about the headphones throwing away.
A small magnet has been built into both earphones, which, in contrast to the previous models, are made of plastic

The battery life

The manufacturer specifies a running time of 8 hours. That can also be confirmed. If the juice runs out afterwards, you can quickly find a second supply. The Fast Fuel charging technology provides 5 hours of music enjoyment within 2 minutes. However, if you want to fully charge the headphones, it takes a good 45 minutes.

Der Preis

You can now get the BeatsX for just under € 100. The AirPods, on the other hand, are available for € 170.
But those who are willing to invest 100 € for in-ear headphones will certainly not be disappointed and are worth the money.

The BeatsX on Amazon

The conclusion

A firm hold in the ear, good battery life and fast charging time, good design and impressive sound speak for a clear purchase recommendation on my part. It is also possible to pair it with any other Bluetooth-enabled device.
