For the first time, Apple brought four new iPhones onto the market and one naturally wonders how best to protect such an expensive smartphone with a case. In addition, you would of course want a case that also makes a good visual impression. We tested two different cases for you.

Nomad is probably rather unknown to some in the market. But that's a shame, because the company is really convincing in terms of price-performance and also pays attention to sustainability. Unfortunately, Nomad is not listed with the major well-known electronics retailers.

Rugged Folio and Rugged Case - something for everyone

Nomad pays attention to quality right from the design of the packaging. Both cases are packaged in the same way and offer first impressions of what the user can expect in the packaging - a high-quality, stylish leather case.

The picture on the right above shows something special - Nomad would like to make it clear to the user how well their cases age and illustrate this on the back of their packaging. According to Nomad, the reason for the better aging is said to be the processed "Howreen" leather.

Two different cases - two different areas of application

When choosing the right case, Nomad offers you two different options. Whether you have an iPhone 12 Pro Max or his little sister uses the iPhone 12 mini. You only have the choice between a folio or rugged case. The differences are clear: the Rugged Folio Case with a front flap to store cards or the Rugged Case if you just want a modern, high-quality case.

The differences are logically in the nature, because if you interact with your smartphone often and snap pictures and check your messages, in my opinion you will be less enjoyable with the Folio Case, because you have to hold the front flap in your hand every time you use it, so as not to block the cameras. The normal rugged case, on the other hand, offers optimal protection during a fall, but has no stowage space for cards.

Overview

To give you a brief overview of the respective advantages and disadvantages, I have given you a small overview:

folio case

BenefitsDisadvantages
Cards and notes too shorthandMore elaborate for photography
Display additionally protectedMore unwieldy due to the front flap
round protectionChunkier in hand

Rugged case

BenefitsDisadvantages
Handy operationNo stowage space for cards
More compact in handNo additional protection of the display
Better for taking picturesMore susceptible to damage from falls

Haptics in everyday use

Due to the significantly more compact size of the iPhone 12 mini, there is of course a difference in the cases compared to its much larger brother, the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

While both cases on the iPhone 12 mini fit perfectly in the hand, there are significant haptic differences on the iPhone 12 Pro Max between the Rugged Case and the Folio Case. Because who will be 12 Pro Max regularly picks up, sooner or later he will have to fight with the 6,7 inches and the front flap, since it is hardly handy to use and therefore feels quite clumsy. The situation is different with the rugged case, because it is stronger than without a case, but it can procan be picked up and operated without any problems, since the front flap is ultimately eliminated.

The target groups

With its pricing policy, Nomad is not only targeting people who want their smartphone to be resistant to scratches or smudges. Instead, one sets solid prices, which one can also expect for the given quality, without charging inhuman prices for unworthy quality. So if you want to buy a case with design and quality, you will spend more money for it.

Conclusion

Even if the buyer at Apple Proproducts by the outrageously high prices of the Californians, Nomad does not accept Apple's prices. Since you get really good protection in everyday life with both cases, I think both prices are definitely worth it.

The Nomad Rugged Case (black / brown) is available for 49,95 euros, the Nomad Rugged Folio Case (black / brown) for 69,95 euros. Unlike the different models, both cases are available in Rustic Brown and Black.

Thank you for providing the covers as part of the test report.
