OPPO A74 review: unboxing and first impression after two days
OPPO posted a whole earlier this week four smartphones this year's A series. Now the first device in the series is the OPPO A74 arrived at our place and we want to unpack it for the first time in this article.
The A74 is the cheapest from the new A series with a recommended retail price of 229 euros, and yet it comes with an AMOLED display, 33 watt fast charging and a large 5.000 mAh battery.
OPPO A74 unboxing
The white sales box makes a very valuable impression and is neither conspicuously large nor small. On the front is the smartphone, but also the Proproduct name and the storage option. Once you've removed the lid, you'll see a white box containing the usual paperwork, a case, and a SIM needle. Directly below you will find not only the smartphone itself, but also a power supply unit with up to 33 watts, a suitable cable from USB-C to USB-A and even in-ear headphones. In addition, the screen is protected by a protective film that is relatively well attached.
First impression of the OPPO A74
I've been using the OPPO A74 for about two days now, and I've noticed a lot during that time. Starting with the design, which I really like extremely. The smartphone looks nice and thin, is pleasantly light at 175 grams and the edges are almost perfectly rounded. Because of this, the smartphone is very comfortable and easy to grip. In addition, there is the chic back, which unfortunately only consists of plastic with a high-gloss finish, but at least looks very chic. The black color of my test device is prone to fingerprints, but to be honest, I imagined it to be much worse.
If we look at the front, we see a large 6,4-inch OLED display with FHD + resolution, a small punch hole for the front camera, and quite thin bezels. Sure, the lower edge of the screen could be a bit thinner, but for 229 euros I don't want to complain too much, especially because other smartphones for less than 300 euros are not really better here either. The quality of the panel has made a very good impression so far.
After all the praise, it's time to criticize the device, because there is plenty of room for improvement in terms of performance. Only the Snapdragon 662 from Qualcomm works under the hood, which we for example from the much cheaper one Little M3 know. At least 8 GB of RAM stand by its side, but the performance is simply not satisfactory. It jerks very often and the entire operating speed seems quite sluggish. Unfortunately, that's not enough for 229 euros. Almost all of the competition offers more here. For comparison, the cheaper one Little X3 NFC owns the Snapdragon 732G, the Realme 7 5G the strong MediaTek Dimensity 800U and the Poco X3 Pro even the Snapdragon 860.
So far, I can't say too much about the camera and battery life. I'll have to take a closer look at this over the next few days and compare it with other smartphones. I am now looking forward to the next few days with the OPPO A74 and my detailed test report will follow here very soon TechnikNews.
