Oppo Enco X review: AirPods Pro Killer?

(Post picture: © 2021 TechnikNews (2021))

Oppo has also noticed that wireless headphones are a good source of income. They are particularly proud of the Oppo Enco X, which we have thoroughly tested.

The Oppo Enco X look a bit like AirPods without question Pro, but is that bad? no The case is pleasantly small and is similar in size to the AirPods Pro comparable. To differentiate them, you can see a silver oval with Oppo lettering around the headphones, as well as a note on the back that Oppo has enlisted the help of DYN Audio. Wireless charging is included, otherwise you can just use USB-C. What I noticed positively: The locking mechanism is mega. Pleasantly soft and with a satisfying click.

Sound and connection

They sit well in the ear and sound really good too. Dual drivers come at a price in this case, and I would say it pays off. They sound different than the AirPods Pro, a bit fuller and with a pleasantly low latency. This is achieved by Bluetooth 5.2, which is of course also backwards compatible. In my test with Bluetooth 5.1, videos were lip-synched. With the smartphones of the BBK Group, i.e. with Oppo, Realme and OnePlus devices, you will find many setting options directly in the Bluetooth settings. And for Vivo, Samsung and Co. there is the so-called HeyMelody app. Yes, Vivo too, although the brand also belongs to BBK. With iOS, the headphones can be used as normal Bluetooth headphones.

The control then takes place via touch surfaces on the earphones, which work reliably, incorrect entries occur every now and then, but are not annoying. Nevertheless, the system of the AirPods Pro is more reliable. But since individual tips are not used, this is not the case in everyday life Prostated problems.

Active Noise Canceling

The interchangeable EarTips keep ambient noise well away from your ears. This is further supported by the active noise canceling - so you're almost always sitting in a quiet room. I haven't seen any reference to pressure equalization systems, but in fact the pressure of noise cancellation is non-existent. Not a little, not minimally - not at all. Even the AirPods Pro don't manage to keep up, even though it's extremely good there. Nevertheless, the noise canceling of the Oppo Enco X is almost on par, the less good microphones filter out voices a little less. If you pick up a listener, ANC and music pause, but mostly with a few seconds of thought. Unfortunately, the less good microphones ensure that the transparency mode sounds good, but by no means lifelike. I think the AirPods Pro but eh are the only headphones that can do it. The ear tips just mentioned are comfortable in the ear, I could wear the whole thing for hours. I used them on the ICE, what no Proproblem was. They sit well in the ear and after a short time you no longer notice them.

Battery and additional information

The Enco X are protected according to IP 54, so they are not completely resistant to water and dust, but they should survive a rain shower. This means that they are officially better protected than most other in-ear headphones. They last a good 5 hours in the ear and, according to Oppo, the case should allow four more charges. I didn't run a stopwatch, but the battery is definitely good. Wireless charging also helps here.

Conclusion

Even if I would stick to my statement overall that the AirPods Pro are the best Bluetooth in-ear headphones in their price range, the Oppo Enco X come close. And especially since they are around 180 euros cheaper at 30 euros, they are a good deal for Android users and especially Oppo, Realme and OnePlus buyers. At the time of publication, they are even almost 80 euros cheaper than the AirPods Pro, which makes them almost unrivaled and no longer comparable to the AirPods Pro have to measure, but rather with the standard AirPods. And then they are an almost unbeatable overall package.
