Oppo Enco X review: AirPods Pro Killer?

Oppo has also noticed that wireless headphones are a good source of income. They are particularly proud of the Oppo Enco X, which we have thoroughly tested.
The Oppo Enco X undoubtedly look a bit like the AirPods Pro, but is that a bad thing? No. The case is pleasantly small and is comparable in size to the AirPods Pro. To distinguish it from the others, you can see a silver oval with Oppo lettering around the headphones and a note on the back that Oppo has gotten help from DYN Audio. Wireless charging is included, otherwise you can just use USB-C. What I noticed positively: The locking mechanism is great. Pleasantly soft and with a satisfying click.

Sound and connection
They sit well in the ear and sound really good. In this case, this is achieved through dual drivers, and I would say it pays off. They sound different to the AirPods Pro, a bit fuller and with a pleasantly low latency. This is achieved through Bluetooth 5.2, which is of course also backwards compatible. In my test with Bluetooth 5.1, videos were lip-synced. On the smartphones of the BBK group, i.e. Oppo, Realme and OnePlus devices, you can find many setting options directly in the Bluetooth settings. And for Vivo, Samsung and Co. there is the so-called HeyMelody app. Yes, even Vivo, although the brand also belongs to BBK. With iOS, the headphones can be used as normal Bluetooth headphones.
Controller
The controls are then controlled via touch surfaces on the earphones, which work reliably. Errors do occur now and again, but they are not a problem. Nevertheless, the AirPods Pro system is more reliable. However, since individual taps are not used, this is not a problem in everyday life.
Active Noise Canceling
The replaceable ear tips keep ambient noise well away from your ear. This is further supported by the active noise cancelling - so you're basically always sitting in a quiet room. I haven't seen any evidence of pressure equalisation systems, but in fact the pressure of the noise cancellation is non-existent. Not a bit, not minimal - not at all. Even the AirPods Pro can't keep up, although it's extremely good even there. Nevertheless, the noise cancelling of the Oppo Enco X is almost on par, voices are filtered out a little less due to the less good microphones. If you take one earpiece out, ANC and music pause, but usually after a few seconds of thinking. Unfortunately, the less good microphones ensure that the transparency mode sounds good, but by no means lifelike. I think that the AirPods Pro are the only headphones that can do this anyway. The ear tips mentioned above are comfortable in the ear, I could wear the whole thing for hours. I used them on the ICE, which was no problem. They sit well in the ear and after a short time you no longer notice them.

Battery and additional information
The Enco X are protected according to IP 54, so they are not completely resistant to water and dust, but they should survive a rain shower. This means that they are officially better protected than most other in-ear headphones. They last a good 5 hours in the ear and, according to Oppo, the case should allow four more charges. I didn't run a stopwatch, but the battery is definitely good. Wireless charging also helps here.
Conclusion
Even though I would stick to my statement that the AirPods Pro are the best Bluetooth in-ear headphones in their price range, the Oppo Enco X come close. And especially since they are around 180 euros cheaper at 30 euros, they are a good deal for Android users and especially Oppo, Realme and OnePlus buyers. At the time of publication, they are even almost 80 euros cheaper than the AirPods Pro, which means they are almost unrivaled and no longer have to compete with the AirPods Pro, but rather with the standard AirPods. And then they are an almost unbeatable overall package.
