Spotify down: Outage paralyzes music streaming service – because of audiobooks?

Spotify is currently unavailable to many users. Both the website and the app display error messages such as "502 Bad Gateway" or "504 Gateway Timeout" or "upstream request timeout," or display no content. In the app, songs and playlists sometimes fail to load or cannot be played at all. Browsing music is also not possible in some cases. What's particularly exciting is that Spotify just introduced audiobooks as a new feature today.
The outages may also be due to a disruption in Google Cloud, whose infrastructure Spotify partially relies on. Whatever the cause, some Spotify services are currently only available to a limited extent due to the disruption. In some cases, playlists appear empty, songs stop playing during playback, or don't start at all.
Spotify down – what to do?
Those who have previously saved their favorite songs or playlists offline—a feature only available with a Spotify Premium subscription—can at least partially circumvent the issue. The offline-saved songs are stored on the device and can be played directly from the app even without an active internet connection. However, playback outside of the app is not possible because the files are encrypted. We'll keep you updated.
