With the world premiere of the Volvo EX60 on January 21, 2026, Volvo has launched a frontal assault on its German premium competitors. While BMW aims to revolutionize the electric mid-size class with the iX3 based on the "New Class," the Swedes are now presenting figures that could pose a serious threat to the Munich-based company.

As the first all-electric Volvo in the mid-size SUV segment, the new EX60 is intended to massively expand the Swedish manufacturer's market share and relies on a completely new product architecture..

Range king: 810 kilometers is the new benchmark.

The highlight of the new EX60 is undoubtedly its endurance. In the top engine version P12 AWD The Swedish SUV cracks the WLTP range with up to 810 kilometers It crosses the magic threshold and thus even surpasses the new BMW iX3 (805 km) by a hair. This means the EX60 has a longer range than any other electric Volvo before it.

Charging speed: Back on long-distance travel in 10 minutes.

Thanks to the new SPA3 platform For the first time, Volvo is consistently relying on a 800-volt electrical systemThe charging performance is impressive: at a 400 kW fast charging station, it's possible to charge the vehicle in just... ten minutes Range for further 340 km Recharging. A full charge from 10 to 80 percent takes only 18 to 19 minutes, exactly the level that BMW is aiming for with its new models.

The specs: Three drives for every need.

Volvo is offering the EX60 in three performance levels at market launch; the "engine names" are once again of a classic nature:

  • P6 electric (entry-level): rear-wheel drive 275 kW (374 PS), up to 620 km range. (80 kWh NMC)

  • P10 AWD electric: All-wheel drive 375 kW (510 PS), up to 660 km range.

  • P12 AWD electric (top model): All-wheel drive 500 kW (680 PS), up to 810 km range, 0-100 km/h in 3,9 seconds. (117 kWh NMC)

Gemini on board: How the Volvo EX60 turns the car into an AI partner.

With the new Volvo EX60 Volvo is breaking with a long-standing design tradition and for the first time is relying on a central display in landscape format, instead of the brand's previously typical vertical orientation. This switch to a horizontal layout allows for a significantly more immersive presentation of content and creates space for a completely new user interface. At the heart of this system is the deep integration of Google Gemini.

The EX60 is the first Volvo to fully utilize the power of this AI assistant to elevate human-machine interaction to a new level. Gemini no longer functions merely as a simple voice command receiver, but as a true assistant. proActive partner: It can take over complex tasks – such as finding hotel addresses from private emails or checking whether a planned purchase fits in the trunk – thus enabling a natural dialogue that makes manual operation via the touchscreen during the journey almost unnecessary.

Pricing and market launch: Available to order now. Deliveries from summer 2026. Cheaper than the XC60.

The Volvo EX60 is now available to order in Germany. Prices start at 62.990 euros (incl. 19% VAT) for the P6 in the Plus trim level. The top model as well as the robust Cross-country variant (Starting at approximately €68.990 including 19% VAT) will complement the portfolio, with the first deliveries planned for summer 2026. The high-performance P12 AWD model will be the last to be delivered.

Under 60.000 euros thanks to Germany's electric car subsidy.

The EX60 is built in Sweden, making it a European-made car. Those eligible for the new "social" electric car subsidy in Germany could theoretically receive the maximum premium for a base EX60 for 56.990 euros (including 19% VAT)

The Volvo XC60 The XC60 is the brand's best-selling model in Germany, both as a combustion engine vehicle and as a plug-in hybrid. Since the XC60 is comparatively expensive with a base price of €67.990 (including 19% VAT), we are certain that the majority of future sales will be for the EX60.

Conclusion: Who is ahead?

Whether BMW will truly have to pack it in with its "New Class" remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Volvo is delivering a software-defined vehicle with the EX60 that not only matches BMW's range and charging speed, but also surpasses their prestige.proThe project even slightly surpassed it in some key data points. The battle for the crown in the most important electric car segment has thus officially begun.

Very interesting vehicle.
It's a shame that this model doesn't use an LFP battery like the XPENG G6. Presumably, this is due to its slightly higher performance.
This would result in less battery wear over the years.
The price is interesting, but if the entry price is already "so high", the performance model will probably be significantly more expensive.
