Only a few more months until May, when the Google I / O will very likely take place again. Google always uses this to show a new Android - this year Android 11. Now the first beta is available.

Google released the first developer beta for Android 11 this week. These enable developers and curious geeks to get an insight into the upcoming Android version. Since these usually still contain a lot of bugs at that time, it is advisable not to install the software on your daily driver.

Until the final release in the third quarter of the year (this is very likely in September take place) five more betas should appear. Two more developer versions and three public betas. Google has set the “Platform Stability” milestone for June. At this point, Android 11 should already work like the final version.

Android 11: New Features

What can we now expect from the new Android generation? Google lists 5G as the first major innovation. The aim is to offer app developers better developer interfaces (APIs) for dealing with the new cellular standard.

New form factors for smartphone displays are still a trend. So there is a new API for touchscreens with cutouts for the front camera and waterfall displays. Another area that Google has tackled for Android 11 is chatting and notifications. For example, there is now its own "Bubble API", which means that notifications can look like those of Facebook Messenger. In addition, messenger apps are now packed into their own "Chats" group in the notification bar.

In addition, a standalone screen recorder for stock Android has also appeared. The screenshot function has also been improved: in the first beta there is an "Extend" button, which is supposed to enable screenshots with scrolling.

The company has also taken care of the issues of privacy and security again and improved them further.

As already mentioned, the next Google I / O will very likely take place again in May. From then on, the beta will be compatible with other smartphones, as in previous years.
