Technical requirements
Tim Cook promised that Apple Pay would be launched in Germany this year - and he kept these promises. Today the company published a press release in which it was announced that Apple Pay can now be used in Germany. However, the service does not work with every Apple device.
If you want to pay with your iPhone or Apple Watch on the go, you need at least an iPhone 6. The reason for this is that older devices do not yet have an NFC chip, which is urgently needed for payment. It's a bit easier with the Apple Watch. All models that have ever been introduced have such a chip. So you don't have to pay attention to anything here.
The payment service from Apple works on the iPad from the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3. If you want to pay via the Mac, then a MacBook is the way to go Pro or MacBook Air with Touch ID required. Alternatively, Apple Pay can also be used with all Macs from 2012 in combination with a supported Apple cell phone.
These banks are there
Apple announced in advance which banks would support the service. There are among others N26, O2 Banking and HypoVereinsbank. Large banks, such as the Sparkasse, are missing. You can use the boon. that you can top up with credit that you can use for Apple Pay later on.
You can pay with Apple Pay in these shops
In principle, you can also pay with Apple Pay in all shops that support contactless payment by credit card. This is possible because the credit cards also use an NFC chip. However, you can also use Apple's payment service to settle your bills in online shops or apps. This is sometimes possible in the Flixbus and BVG app.
