It's over with boon from Wirecard - at least in Austria and probably only for the time being. This was officially announced today in a mailing to all Austrian customers. The reasons for this are still unknown.

With apps like boon it was also possible in this country in Austria to pay contactless with the smartphone. Contactless payment systems with smartphones such as Google Pay and Apple Pay have not yet taken off in Austria. Just Garmin Pay is currently available in Austria - but only works with wearables from the manufacturer. Specifically, they want to discontinue their services and the Android app in Austria on March 31, 2019. Until then, you should spend all of your credit balance, have the service team transfer it to your own account or settle outstanding payments from the minus area.

Will Google Pay be launched at the end of March?

In the email one speaks of "We look forward to seeing you when Google Pay is available in Austria". This suggests that with the start of Google Pay, all of its services will be offered again in Austria. Furthermore, one writes of the termination of the services at the end of March. Can you expect a start date for Google Pay at this point in time? It would be very unlikely to keep Austrian customers waiting any longer with a new contactless payment system. Unfortunately, no reasons were given for the hiring.

It remains exciting. We'll stay tuned and will inform you in this article as soon as there is news. A response from boon to our request is still pending.
