Digital driving license starts in Austria

To serious delay you can now show your driving license in Austria with your smartphone. The prerequisite for this is the new eID app. All details.
Legislative changes were applied for in Austria back in November 2020, which should make it possible to implement the digital driver’s license. Actually, the necessary technical infrastructure should have been created by the spring of last year. Finally this started Proproject this week.
Digital driver's license: How do I get the driver's license on my smartphone?
In order to be able to carry your driving license with you in electronic form, you need the e-ID app for Android and iOS. To register in this, it is also necessary to activate the ID Austria, a further development of the mobile phone signature, in the "Digital Office" app. This is also available for Android in the Play Store or for iPhones in the App Store. If you already have a mobile phone signature, you can upgrade it to a fully-fledged ID Austria in “Digitales Amt”.
In the long term, the eID app will not only keep the driving license. In the future, it should also be possible to save proof of age and the registration certificate for a motor vehicle. Secretary of State for Digitization Florian Tursky has announced the start of 2023 as the starting date for these things.
For a traffic check, a QR code can be created with just one click in the app, which an officer can scan. Alternatively, you can also only call up the ID card data, which is helpful, for example, when processing contracts. For checks at events or in similar situations, there is now the "eID Check" app, which can also be used without ID Austria. It should be noted, however, that the whole thing is only recognized in Austria for the time being.

The driving license in digital form can now be used. The only requirements are the two apps mentioned and registration with ID Austria.
