At yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, the company presented the Virtual Game Cards for the Nintendo Switch, which makes it easier to play digital games across multiple consoles. Here's what you need to know.

Owners of multiple Switch consoles and digital games have previously had the option to download them multiple times using the same Nintendo Account. However, this process comes with some drawbacks.

One of them is that there can only be one main console, and all those that do not have this status require an active internet connection to start games. Another is that the buyer's Nintendo Account is linked to all usersprofiles that want to use a specific title must be connected. This can be undesirable, especially if children also use the Switch.

Yesterday, Nintendo unveiled the Virtual Game Cards during a Nintendo Direct. These not only eliminate these disadvantages, but also offer additional freedom.

Nintendo Virtual Game Cards: Features

If multiple consoles are connected to a Nintendo Account, you can choose which one you want to use your games on thanks to Virtual Game Cards. Once a card is installed on one system, it is available for all profiles, even without an internet connection. Virtual cards can be managed directly on the device or via the Nintendo website.

The big innovation of Virtual Game Cards is that they can also be loaned to members of the Nintendo Family. The loan period is 14 days, although a game can be returned earlier. However, game saves remain after the return.

The new feature will be available for all Switch models via a software update starting at the end of April.
