Fitbit Charge 3: waterproof, touchscreen and NFC likely
In a few days, Fitbit will be exhibiting the latest successor Fitbit Charge 3 at the IFA in Berlin. The fitness tracker should now have a real touchscreen and be waterproof. Finally.
The predecessor Fitbit Charge 2 was still operated by typing and swiping. Now you should finally rely on a full-fledged touchscreen that no longer has to be "heavily" typed. David had the tracker for last year TechnikNews tested and was satisfied. As a criticism, however, there was the lack of water resistance - that should now change with the Charge 3.
Fitbit Charge 3 now waterproof?
Who Android Authority reports, the tracker should be waterproof up to 5ATM. That means a maximum pressure of 5 bar - but it doesn't mean diving up to 5 meters. But it should definitely be enough for swimming, washing hands or showering. Unfortunately, there will still be no GPS chip inside - we criticized this in our review at the time. So you have to have your smartphone connected to the tracker when running and cycling in order to be able to record routes.
It is also expected that there will be two versions of the tracker. The “Special Edition” should cost a little more, but offer extras such as contactless payment with NFC. Perfect since this week Fitbit Pay launched in Germany is. It is not known whether Google Pay or other providers will be supported. Rather not.
When it comes to colors, you can choose between a white silicone bracelet and a special “Rosé Gold Lavender” bracelet. The price is assumed to be around 200 euros, since the predecessor Charge 2 cost just under 160 euros at the start of the market. The “Special Edition” with NFC will probably cost a few euros more.
