Google releases Allo: the WhatsApp competition?

(Post picture: © 2016 Google)

The messenger with artificial intelligence was presented at Google I / O 2016 - now it is finally here. Allo is supposed to make chatting even better and simpler for the user.

It has been possible to use Messenger since the introduction of Allo Register in the Play Store in advance. Impatient users could already here Download the APK of Allo. So far, however, there have been no insights as the registration has not yet been activated.

Messenger with Smart Replies and integrated Google search

The integrated Google search makes it possible to search for directions, pictures and locations directly in the chat. So far, only English is supported, but languages such as German are to follow shortly. In addition, Google will in future even remember the user's answers and automatically display them as clickable buttons. If your chat partner should write "How are you?", You can easily choose an answer by selecting the button. Here the appropriate answers would be suggested: “Good, you?”, “Not so good.” Or something like “Are you okay with you?”.

Allo values privacy

In addition to chat games, displaying the latest news or chatting directly with the Google Assistant, the Messenger can do a lot more. Among other things, groups can be created including the Google Assistant or an incognito chat can be started. In an incognito chat, the assistant does not read along and should thus ensure more privacy. Like all messengers in 2016, the chats are encrypted end-to-end as usual.

What no one knew before: voice messages can also be used to chat with the assistant or start a Google search in the chat. All you have to do is start a voice recording, speak the question and Allo will search for it. Other nice gimmicks such as changing the font size with a long tap on the "Send" symbol or some chat quizzes are integrated.

It is questionable whether Allo will really overthrow WhatsApp in the future. WhatsApp should now react quickly so as not to lose its loyal users. Together with the recently launched Video service duo but Allo has a good chance.

Telegram is based on GNU and in principle everything, from games to translators, can be integrated as a bot. Telegram has been around for a while, is completely free, has secret chats à la Snapchat and has not even managed to take Whatsapp anywhere near the throne. This messenger will not be able to do that either and will probably lag behind the already semi-established ones such as Telegram or Threema. Google is way too late to release a semi-intuitive messenger. This is not going to work

I think Messenger is wonderful, even better than WhatsApp.
