Intel is taking a step in at the deep end because of the Proprocessor manufacturer suddenly released its own graphics card with the Intel Arc A770. Can it compete with the market leaders? How does it perform in the first benchmarks? All information in this article.

To say it right at the beginning: You shouldn't compare this graphics card with the most powerful models from AMD or NVIDIA. This graphics card clearly cannot hold a candle to an RTX 4090 or an RX 6900 XT. Intel itself compares the card more with an RTX 3060 TI or an RX 6700 XT. Intel compares itself to NVIDIA because they want to make themselves attractively priced. The biggest competitor here is AMD, since their orientation is very price/performance oriented. The price here is around 450 euros.

Specs of this graphics card

  • 4096 shader units, which is 4 times that of the Arc A380
  • Amazing 16GB GDDR6 Video RAM
  • A clock frequency of 2100 MHz
  • 32 Ray Tracing Units and 32 Xe Cores (Intel's AI-based upscaling mechanics)

Performance of the A770

Compared to its competitors, the RX 6700 XT and the RTX 3060 TI, the card performs very well on the synthetic benchmarks and what is particularly surprising is that it performs better than the NVIDIA graphics card on the Port Royale Ray Tracing benchmark.

biggest Proproblem are the drivers

Intel has already mentioned when developing some Kompromiss to have entered. This also includes the support of DirectX-9. However, games with this API, including the Esports title "Counter Strike: Global Offensive", still run because the interface is emulated via the driver, which leads to noticeable performance losses. Large parts of the DirectX 11 titles also do not run with maximum performance on the Intel graphics card. Intel itself says that the games have been divided into three categories: Well-optimized DX-12 and Vulkan games, non-optimized but well-running titles that run under DX-11 and finally the non-performing DX-9 games.

Conclusion

While the performance isn't always on par with other graphics cards in this performance range, there are several titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider or F1 2022 where the Intel graphics card shines. Unfortunately, the performance can vary greatly depending on the game. You get a high-performance mid-range GPU at a very attractive price.
