Netflix adds an audio-only setting in the Android app
Netflix is for experimenting with new features known. so prothe streaming giant is offering an audio-only mode in the Android app.
The new feature for hiding the video in the app's code was discovered back in October. But it didn't work at the time. Now Netflix is gradually rolling out this function for subscribers in the Android app. You cannot force the update yourself, it happens gradually in the background. Means that you won't see a separate update in the Google Play Store.
Netflix: The new audio-only function can do that
Once you have received the update, a button for deactivating the video appears in the playback view. If you press on it, the picture simply disappears, everything else remains as it was before. So you can still use the playback controls, the volume control, the Chromecast support and the brightness control, among other things. The latter is obviously quite unnecessary in this situation.
A new item also appears in the app settings, which can be used to regulate the new audio function. Here you can specify when this mode should be activated automatically. You can choose between “Always”, “Headphones or external speakers” or “Never”.
