On Wednesday, Samsung presented the Galaxy Note 8. Very brave, at least we all remember that Disaster with the grade 7. Still, the Galaxy Note 8 is a bombshell smartphone. All of this became known about the device today.

Design: Greetings from the predecessor

On the front of the Note 8, the 6,3-inch, bright Super AMOLED display shines straight at you. It is again an infinity display and thus built in 18: 9 format. It also has a Quad HD + resolution. In addition, you can find the typical rounding on the right and left in the display, which comes with the edge panels on the software side. An 8MP front camera, the earpiece and the iris scanner can be found above the display.

The same buttons and connections can be found on the frame as on the Galaxy S8 (Plus). There is also a slot for the S-Pen.

The back of the Note 8 is made of glass. In addition to a dual camera, there is only the fingerprint sensor and branding. Unfortunately, the fingerprint sensor is in an equally unfavorable position as in the S8 (Plus).

The whole device is more angular compared to the high-end flagship S8. Nevertheless, there is a certain similarity. But it is waterproof according to IP68. It is available in black, silver, gold and blue.

The S-Pen

The S - Pen is equipped with a thinner tip this year, which means higher accuracy at 4096 pressure levels. It also became waterproof. You can also do ingenious things with it, such as translating text passages and writing down notes on the Always On Display. Live Message is a new addition. It is easier to use the S-Pen to handle messages. This means that, for example, you can write something on a picture with the pen and spice up the result with an animation.

Camera

Samsung is using a dual camera for the first time with the Note 8. A bright f / 1,7 wide-angle sensor with 12MP and a telephoto lens with f / 2,4 and also 12MP were installed. The newcomer from Samsung is the first smartphone to have optical image stabilization built into both sensors. The results of that looked really impressive at the event. Incidentally, the telephoto lens enables double zoom without any losses. What this camera setup enables is, on the one hand, a better low light performance and, on the other hand, the taking of photos with a bokeh effect, which can then be changed later in the gallery.

Specs: Once again the fastest smartphone currently available

In Europe you get the Note 8 with an Exynos 8895. This is the same as in the Galaxy S8 (Plus), but thanks to the 10 nanometer process it offers noticeably more performance. The supportive 6GB of RAM ensures that you don't have to multitask so quickly Proshould get trouble. Your own files can be stored on the 64GB internal memory, which can be stored using a micro SD card procan be easily expanded. A 3300 mAh battery provides power. In comparison, this is 200 mAh smaller than that of the Note 7 – probably for reasons of space. Let's hope it doesn't explode this time. Last year was exactly that Problem the trigger for the scandal. This time they seem to plan a little more space again. It is charged via normal Quick Charge or via Wireless Quick Charge.

Software: few changes

Android 7.1.1 is used as software. Samsung has installed its own Experience UX as the UI. With the exception of a few small things, the software does not differ from that of the S8 (Plus). Nevertheless, these are very worth mentioning. You can now create app pairs, for example. These are two grouped apps in a folder, which you can then easily start. Then these apps are opened in split-screen mode. Very convenient.

Bixby

With Bixby you can now create intelligent commands and define which things should be carried out. An example. I can start Bixby in the evening and say "good night!" Then Bixby knows I want the blue light filter and airplane mode activated, as well as an alarm that wakes me up at 6:00 a.m. But you can also create completely different presets. There are really hardly any limits here. In addition, towards the end of the year you should be able to play songs from Spotify via Bixby. Bixby actually becomes useful.

DeX: The smartphone as a computer

DeX should now run even smoother with the Note 8. In addition, the range of apps has been expanded. One was particularly interested in the cooperation with the company behind the video telephony app Zoom proudly. You can now start a video call while on the move and continue it with DeX in the office without interruptions. From there you can also transfer the screen. Samsung has also thought of smartphone gamers. With the Gamelauncher, games can now be ported to DeX.

Conclusion: Samsung wants to make it up to you

The Last year's disaster wasn't really good for Samsung. For this they have apologized several times today. And not just with words. The company still presented an extremely good smartphone today. In my opinion this is currently the best Android phone on the market. In the meantime I could overlook the position of the fingerprint sensor because I get a monster performance for it. And the rest of the smartphone is simply top of the line right now.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 15 will hit stores on September 8th at an MSRP of € 999. A special pre-order campaign is not planned.
