With the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic, Samsung is bringing the first smartwatches with “Wear OS 3” onto the market. TechnikNews has all the information.

Anyone who has followed Samsung in the past will notice that the names have changed again. The Galaxy Watch "Active" no longer exists and is only called "Galaxy Watch4". The old watch with bezel is now called the Galaxy Watch4 Classic.

Technical specifications

The Galaxy Watch4 is available in two sizes: 40 and 44 millimeters, the Classic in 42 and 64 millimeters. The display size of the Watch4 is 1,2 inches and 1,4 inches, and 1,2 inches and 1,36 inches for the Classic. The Watch4 is equipped with an aluminum case, which Classic processes with "stainless steel". The displays of all watches are protected with Gorilla Glass DX+ for the first time. as Proprocessor, Samsung's new 5-nanometer SoC "W920" is used, which clocks at a maximum of 1,18 GHz. This is supported by 1,5 gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of internal memory. The watches are waterproof to 5 ATM + IP86 and MIL-STD-810G protected against external influences.

Galaxy Watch4: Again with Wear OS

In terms of software, Wear OS is celebrating its comeback at Samsung, and it is now developed together with Google. However, Samsung's One UI surface is on Wear OS, so the operation will not change much. What is new is that Google apps like the Play Store or Google Maps are integrated into the watch, apps like Google Play Music or Spotify are now also available for the platform. The watch has also built in new sensors, a BioActive sensor can measure data such as blood pressure, ECG or oxygen saturation. In this way, the composition of the body can be analyzed, for example the skeletal muscle mass, the basal metabolic rate or the body water or body fat percentages. Sleep tracking has also been improved, and snoring noises can now also be recorded.

But it gets interesting when it comes to the battery life. Google and Samsung had already announced that this should increase a lot thanks to the new platform. The battery sizes are 247 mAh or 361 mAh for the larger versions, Samsung promises up to 40 hours of battery life for the new models, with fast charging, 30 minutes should be enough for 10 hours of use.
