Listening to music together, but at different volume levels? Not anymore: Spotify has announced that it will improve its Group Session feature by introducing a new shared volume control feature. This allows listeners to adjust the volume of a song in sync.

In a nutshell: Spotify improves “Group Session” with a new shared volume control feature that allows users to adjust volume in sync. Users can control music playback in real time and add songs to the shared playlist. Common volume control is gradually rolling out to Android and iOS devices worldwide. But only for Spotify Premium, other users cannot use the group function.

  • Spotify improves "Group Session" with synchronized volume control.
  • Available on Android and iOS, supported by Chromecast, Amazon Cast and most WiFi speakers.
  • Not available for Apple AirPlay or Bluetooth devices.

Spotify volume control works on these devices

The new shared volume control feature is gradually rolling out to Android and iOS devices worldwide. It's available on Chromecast, Amazon Cast, and most WiFi-enabled speakers like Sonos and Bose. However, shared volume control is not currently supported on Apple AirPlay or Bluetooth devices.

This happens with larger groups

Furthermore, the update can only be used for on-site listening. Typically, users have the option to use “Group Session” both remotely and in person. The company also notes that volume control is automatically disabled when there are four or more users in a group session. However, it is also possible for the host to manually disable the volume control.
