Smart is on the attack: After the #1 and the #3, the #5 is now slowly but surely making its way onto the electric car market. It is already impressing with its outstanding technical data. What can we expect from Smart's latest achievement?

It was only a year ago that Smart launched the #1, an interesting SUV with an electric drive, onto the European market. The #3 followed shortly afterwards with slightly larger dimensions, and before you know it, the #5 is already on the way. This is a large premium mid-range SUV with a battery-electric drive, the only type of drive that Smart still builds. The design language is recognizable from the two previous vehicles, where Mercedes-Benz is known to be in charge. The boxy shape and a vehicle length of 4,70 m ensure plenty of space in the interior: the rear trunk holds up to 1.530 l, and there is also a small frunk at the front.

Strong performance data

The high-voltage battery of the #5 holds up to 100 kWh, making it the largest battery ever installed in a Smart – six times as large as the one in the first electric Smart 15 years ago. The NMC battery has a voltage of 800 volts and achieves an impressive charging capacity of 400 kW on a fast charger. With this peak power, up to 70% can be recharged in just 15 minutes. The drive performance is also impressive: with all-wheel drive and up to 475 kW / 645 hp, even proEasily reach destinations beyond paved roads.

The Smart #5 will be rolling out onto the streets next year. It is not yet known how much it will cost, but it will probably be priced well above the #1 and #3.
