Previously only 140 characters were possible - now up to 10.000 characters are possible. Twitter now officially lifts the character limit for private messages. The service now also wants to move towards a messenger alternative.

Twitter is well known for its 140 character limit. Nevertheless, it was annoying when you could only write 140 characters in a direct message - you always had to be very creative and only put the most important things into one message. Like Twitter now in official blog reported, this limit is now being raised from 140 to 10 characters. This is intended to be an approach towards messengers as an alternative to the other well-known messengers. "Speak your mind" like that Product manager Sachin Agarwal from Twitter now reports in the entry: with this new 10 characters one should be able to communicate even better in private chat and be able to report on current events in the world. If you tweet something officially, you unfortunately have to be content with the 000-character limit or switch to other social networks. The function is already available in the current Twitter app – it will follow shortly for the browser.
